Welcome to Cassidi's Page
Our Miracle Baby!
Cassidi was born 11/26/09 (Thanksgiving
Day)
7 pounds 19 7/8" long and head full of dark hair

(Cassidi's first bottle after 5 days in the hospital)

(Doing the photo shoot on discharge day!)
My wife, Cecelia, went into labor the night before
Thanksgiving. This was about 3-4 weeks early but that wasn't too much of a
concern. The real issue was that she was experiencing labor pains due to a
problem with her placenta starting to separate from the uterus (referred to as
placental abruption). This is a life threatening condition for both mother and
child. We made 2 trips to the hospital and on the second trip we had been there
only a few minutes when things became very serious very quickly. The abruption
took place and bleeding started to occur. As born-again Christians, we have,
still, and will believe in the miracle working power in the name of Jesus Christ
and God's desire for us to believe on Him for these miracles to take place in
our lives. He will, in every case, come through according to our faith. I
called on family and friends to pray and believe with us that Cecelia and
Cassidi would live and not die. Cecelia underwent an emergency C-section and
the doctors delivered our baby girl. Due to the nature of the situation, the
baby was in a critical state as she was not getting enough oxygen for an unknown
period of time. Cassidi was not responsive and required CPR for 10 minutes
before she opened her eyes and had spontaneous movement. She had to be
intubated and placed on a ventilator. Meanwhile Cecelia was recovering and
doing well despite losing quite a bit of blood. The doctor came and explained
that Cassidi was experiencing a condition called metabolic acidosis, which
causes damage to major organs and the main concern was that there would be brain
damage. I thanked him for all he had done so far what he was currently doing
for her. I told him that we were praying for her and stated with full assurance
that “Cassidi will be just fine”. They placed Cassidi on a cooling blanket for
72 hours. By cooling her body temperature down and entering a state of
hypothermia, the damaging process is slowed and the body is given time to
correct the acid levels. This is a fairly new procedure that has shown to
produce good results for infants who are in this condition.
During this
time there were tests and reports given to us that were not very positive. We
had to make a decision very early that we would not be moved by the doctors’
reports. It would not, and did not change what we believed. God is a healer
and told us in His word that “…by Jesus’ stripes we WERE healed” – I Peter
2:24. The price had been paid, the victory had been won. Our part was to fight
the good fight of faith! We, along with family and friends, fought that fight
and Cassidi won.
From day 1 she
began to breathe ahead of the ventilator. Even in her state of medication and
hypothermia, she was grasping our finger with her hands. Doctors were beginning
to take notice. After being warmed to normal temperature she began to rapidly
show signs of improvement. She came off the ventilator and they began to feed
her through a feeding tube. She was drinking a bottle only a couple days off
the cooling blanket when the doctors said it could be 2 weeks or more before she
may gain this ability or coordination. We were told by nurses and staff that
they had never seen a ‘Cooling-Blanket baby’ do this well. Doctors would pass
by and ask “Cooling-Blanket baby?” and chuckle as they walked away in
disbelief. She experienced no seizures during her time in NICU, which is one
of the most common symptoms with this condition. After further testing, the
doctors told us, “…she has the best prognosis we could ever ask for”. We were
released to go home LESS than 2 weeks from the date of birth. Upon discharge
the doctor told us from what they could see, we were taking home what appeared
to be a normal baby girl!
We are home and we do have a
perfect baby girl. This is just another miracle and testimony of God’s
faithfulness to do what He promised. We prayed and thanked God every day
specifically for Cecelia and Cassidi to have a Speedy and Full
recovery and that is exactly what we received. We won, the devil lost and God
gets the glory.
We would like
to thank everyone who supported us in prayer during this time. In addition, we
pray this is an encouragement to others not to give up, but to believe that God
is true to His word. He is still in the business of miracles today. Cecelia
and Cassidi are LIVING proof.
As we say quite often,
God is Good – All the Time!
